Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair
Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement
Tools Required
* J 41478 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer
* E-308 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Remover.
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) drive belt. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Replacement (3.6L) (Service and Repair)Starter Replacement (6.0L) (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Removal (L76) (Overhaul)Crankshaft Balancer Removal (6.2L LS3) (Overhaul).
7. Using tool E-308 (2) gently pry the crankshaft oil seal (1) from the front engine cover (3).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal installation. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation (Overhaul).
2. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation (L76) (Overhaul)Crankshaft Balancer Installation (6.2L LS3) (Overhaul).
3. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Replacement (3.6L) (Service and Repair)Starter Replacement (6.0L) (Service and Repair).
4. Install the air conditioning (A/C) drive belt. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory (Service and Repair).
6. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Connect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Service and Repair).
