Valve Lifter Removal
Tools Required
J 3049-A Valve Lifter Remover.
1. Remove the lifter guide to cylinder block retaining bolts (2).
Important: Note the installed position of the valve lifter guides (1). The notched area of the valve lifter guides (1) are to align with the locating tab on the cylinder block (3).
2. Remove the valve lifter guides (1) and valve lifters as an assembly from the cylinder block (3).
3. Remove the valve lifters (2 and 3) from the valve lifter guide (1).
Important: Some valve lifters (2 or 3) may be stuck in their bores because of gum or varnish deposits.
4. Use J 3049-A J 3049-A or equivalent in order to remove the valve lifters (2 and 3), if required.
Important: The cylinder deactivation lifters (4) are installed into the guide (5) by aligning the notched area of the guide (1) with the raised surface on the side of the lifter (2).
5. When using the valve train components again, always install the components to the original location and position. Refer to Separating Parts (Separating Parts).
6. Clean and inspect the valve lifters (3 and 4), if required. Refer to Valve Lifter and Guide Cleaning and Inspection (Overhaul).
