30. Camshaft Removal




Camshaft Removal




1. Rotate the engine in order to align the timing marks (1, 2).




2. Remove the camshaft sprocket to camshaft retaining bolt (1).
3. Remove the timing chain (3), from the camshaft sprocket (2), and allow the timing chain (3) to rest on the crankshaft sprocket (2).




4. Remove the camshaft retainer to cylinder block retaining bolts (1) and remove the camshaft retainer (2).





Caution: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

5. Remove the camshaft (2).

1. Install M8 -1.25 x 100 mm ( M8 -1.25 x 4.0 in) bolts (1) in the front of the camshaft (2).
2. Using the bolts (1) as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft (2) out of the cylinder block (3).
3. Remove the bolts (1) from the camshaft (3).

6. If required, clean and inspect the camshaft (3) and bearings. Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection.
