Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement

Special Tools
* J-8614-A - Pinion Flange Holder and Remover
* J-21052-4 - Crankshaft End Protector
* J-41665-A - Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer
* J-41998-A - Crankshaft Balancer Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the front wheel RH.
2. Remove the engine under cover RH.
3. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the V-ribbed belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).




5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Using the J-8614-A - holder and remover , hold the pulley in place, loosen and remove the pulley bolt.




7. Place the J-21052-4 - protector (1) on the end of the crankshaft




8. Using the J-8614-A - holder and remover (1) , remove the crankshaft pulley.
9. Remove the timing chain cover oil seal.





Note: After removing, check the crankshaft for nicks or burrs. Smooth the surface with 400-grit sandpaper.

10. Using a knife, cut off the lip (1) of the oil seal.
11. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with tape, pry out the oil seal.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the timing chain cover oil seal.
2. Apply MP grease to the lip of a new oil seal.





Note: Wipe off extra grease from the crankshaft.

3. Using J-41998-A - installer (1) and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.
4. Align the pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley.




5. Using the J-41665-1 - installer (1), push the pulley onto the crankshaft.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

6. Using the J-8614-A - holder and remover , hold the pulley in place and tighten the bolt to 190 Nm (140 lb ft).
7. Install the V-ribbed belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Add the engine oil.
9. Inspect for engine oil leaks.
10. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the engine under cover RH.
12. Install the front wheel RH.
