Park Brake Rear Cable Replacement




Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement (Except All Wheel Drive and GT)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the rear floor console. Refer to Rear Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).




2. Remove the 4 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) and the console box upper support.
3. Turn back the floor carpet.




4. Remove the 5 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and the console box lower support.




5. Loosen the lock nut (1).
6. Loosen the adjusting nut (2).




7. Separate the park brake cable equalizer (1) from the rear park brake cable.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the center exhaust pipe with the resonator and the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L AWD) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L FWD) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (1.8L) (Service and Repair).




11. Remove the 3 nuts (1, 2, 3) and the upper front floor heat shield.




12. Remove the 2 nuts (2, 3) and the upper center floor heat shield (1).




13. Remove the 4 bolts (2, 3, 4, 5) and the fuel tank heat shield (1).




14. Remove the park brake lever protector (1) from the rear park brake cable.




15. Disengage the clamp (2) from the rear park brake cable.
16. Remove the bolt (1).




17. Separate the rear park brake cable (1) from the bracket on the rear brake caliper.




18. Use an offset wrench (3) in order to disengage the clip (2) and remove the rear park brake cable (1) from the brake caliper.




19. Remove the rear park brake cable clamp (1) from the body.




20. Remove the bolt (1).
21. Remove the rear park brake cable from the guide.




22. Remove the bolt (1) that retains the rear park brake cable to the body.




23. Remove the bolt (1).




24. Remove the rear park brake cable (1) from the vehicle.




25. Disengage the 2 claws (1, 2) and remove the clamp from the rear park brake cable.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the clamp to the rear park brake cable and engage the 2 claws (1, 2).




2. Position the rear park brake cable (1) on the body.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the bolt (1) in order to retain the rear park brake cable to the body and tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb in).




4. Install the bolt (1) and tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb in).




5. Install the rear park brake cable into the guide.
6. Install the bolt (1) and tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb in).




7. Install the rear park brake cable clamp (1) to the body.




8. Install the rear park brake cable (1) to the rear brake caliper and engage the clip (2).




9. Install the rear park brake cable (1) to the bracket on the rear brake caliper.




10. Install the bolt (1) and tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb in).
11. Engage the clamp (2).




12. Install the park brake lever protector (1) to the rear park brake cable.




13. Install the fuel tank heat shield (1) with the 4 bolts (2, 3, 4, 5). Tighten the bolts to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).




14. Install the upper center floor heat shield (1) with the 2 nuts (2, 3). Tighten the nuts to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).




15. Install the upper front floor heat shield with the 3 nuts (1, 2, 3). Tighten the nuts to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).
16. Install the center exhaust pipe with the resonator and the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L AWD) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (2.4L FWD) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (1.8L) (Service and Repair).




17. Install the rear park brake cable to the equalizer (1).
18. Adjust the park brake and tighten the nuts. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (All Wheel Drive and GT) (Adjustments)Parking Brake Adjustment (Except All Wheel Drive and GT) (Adjustments).




19. Install the console box lower support with the 5 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and tighten to 27 Nm (19 lb ft).
20. Install the floor carpet around the console box lower support.




21. Install the console box upper support with the 4 bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) and tighten to 27 Nm (19 lb ft).
22. Install the rear floor console. Refer to Rear Floor Console Replacement (Service and Repair).
23. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
24. Lower the vehicle.
