Removing camshafts

Information

- Always counter camshafts at the hexagon because the camshaft bar can break!

Information

- The numbers of the bearing covers on the outlet camshaft 3 are even numbers, counting from the timing chain.

- The numbers of the bearing covers on the intake camshaft 1 are uneven numbers, counting from the timing chain.

- The bearing cover numbers can be read from the intake side.

- Corners of the bearing covers are facing outwards.

- Bearing covers no. 7 and 8 are thrust bearings and guide bearings.

1. Remove camshafts.
1.1. Remove intake camshaft.
Loosen hexagon nuts on bearing covers in diagonally opposite sequence.
Note the sequence in which bearing covers are removed.
1.1.1. Remove bearing covers 1 and 13.
1.1.2. Remove bearing covers 3 and 11.
1.1.3. Remove bearing cover 7.
1.1.4. Remove bearing covers 5 and 9.
1.2. Remove outlet camshaft.
Loosen hexagon nuts on bearing covers in diagonally opposite sequence.
Note the sequence in which bearing covers are removed.
1.2.1. Remove bearing covers 2 and 14.
1.2.2. Remove bearing covers 4 and 12.
1.2.3. Remove bearing cover 8.
1.2.4. Remove bearing covers 6 and 10.

Installing camshafts

1. Install the camshafts.
1.1. Insert the camshafts into the cylinder head in such a way that the camshaft bar T10068A fits into the slots on the intake and outlet camshafts at the same time. -> 150520 Removing and installing camshafts on V6 DFI engines

1.2. Install intake camshaft.
Note the sequence in which bearing covers are installed.
1.2.1. First fit bearing covers 5 and 9 and tighten the hexagon nuts in diagonally opposite sequence.
1.2.2. Repeat the process for bearing covers 1 and 13.
1.2.3. Repeat the process for bearing cover 7.
1.2.4. Repeat the process for bearing covers 3 and 11.
1.3. Install outlet camshaft.
Note the sequence in which bearing covers are installed.
Use the same torque and torque angle as for the intake camshaft.
1.3.1. First fit bearing covers 6 and 10 and tighten the hexagon nuts in diagonally opposite sequence.
1.3.2. Repeat the process for bearing covers 2 and 14.
1.3.3. Repeat the process for bearing cover 8.
