Power Steering Fluid Cooler: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

1. Remove lock carrier. -> 503819 Removing and installing lock carrier - section on "Removing" Service and Repair

Removing power-steering cooler

CAUTION

Increased risk of accidents if Pentosin CHF 202 gets onto the surrounding area (e.g. onto the coolant hoses) when the oil coolant hoses are loosened (opened).

- Possible danger of injury or damage.

-> Collect any emerging Pentosin.
-> Wear protective goggles when carrying out overhead work on lines with Pentosin.
-> Wear protective gloves.
-> If coolant hoses come into contact with Pentosin, thoroughly clean them with water IMMEDIATELY.
-> Replace visibly swollen coolant hoses.

Information

After pulling off the hoses, close off all openings immediately using commercially available rubber stoppers.

The power-steering cooler is located at the radiator module (water cooler, condenser, automatic transmission oil cooler, power-steering cooler), behind the front apron.





Installation position of power-steering cooler

1. Remove centre air guide -1-.

2. Disconnect hydraulic lines to the power-steering cooler.





Pulling off hoses

2.1. Loosen clamps.
2.2. Pull off both hoses -A-.
2.3. Unscrew fastening screw and remove the hose holder -B-.
3. Use a suitable container to collect any Pentosin that runs out.
4. Unclip power-steering cooler from the two holders -2- ( -C- ).

5. Pull power-steering cooler to the left -D- out of the bracket -3-.
6. Remove power-steering cooler by pulling it forward -E-.

1. Position the cooler -E- and guide it into the holder -3- from the left -D-.

2. Clip in the cooler at the two holders -2- ( -C- ).
3. Secure hydraulic lines to the power-steering cooler.

3.1. Position hose holder -B- and tighten the fastening screw.
3.2. Connect both hoses -A-.
3.3. Tighten clamps.
4. Install centre air guide -1-.

Subsequent work

1. Install lock carrier. -> 503819 Removing and installing lock carrier - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. Install engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard
3. Fill in Pentosin and bleed the steering => Test and assembly work on power steering.
