Checking Gear Selector Arm

GEAR SELECTOR ARM

Verify that the gear selector arm is fitted in the correct direction. See Figure 32.B below.

NOTE
There is a danger of burning yourself performing this modification. Take care when working near the exhaust pipe.

1. Check if the gear selector arm is correctly fitted. If it is not. continue with steps below. The correct orientation is as indicated in Figure 32.B.

2. Set the gear selector to position "1".

3. Remove the nut securing the gear selector arm.

4. Lift and turn the gear selector arm.

5. Fit the gear selector arm in place and tighten the nut.

Tightening torque 25Nm (18 ft.lbs).

6. Check the gear positions and adjust if necessary as described on the next page.

1. Detach the cover beside the gear selector lever. See Figure 33.A.

NOTE
Be careful with the WINTER switch and the wiring under the cover.

2. Move the gear selector lever to position 1. Lift the front edge of the indicator plate and move the lever to position R. See Figure 33.B.

3. Using a 10 mm socket (for 114" attachment) on an extension. undo the nut securing the gear selector cable so that the end of the cable is tree. See Figure 33.0.

4. Check that the gear selector lever is in R and tighten the nut. See Figure 33.D.

Tightening torque: 8Nm (6 ft.lbs.)

5. Make sure that the play in N and D are the same and that all gear positions can be engaged. If this is not the case. points 3 and 4 above must be repeated.

6. Move the gear selector lever to position 1. Fit the indicator plate in place. Clip on the cover beside the gear selector lever. See Figure 33.B.
