Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

To Remove
To avoid an unnecessarily large quantity of fuel from running out while carrying out adjustment, the fuel system should be run dry as follows: start the engine, remove fuse 32 while the engine is running and do not switch off until the engine has stopped.

1. Remove the resonating chamber.
2. Disconnect the crankcase breather hose and the IAC valve with hoses.
3. Remove the bracket for the dipstick as well as the throttle and Cruise Control cables.
4. Remove the 4 retaining screws, 2 at each end of the fuel-injection rail, and the 2 screws for the cable conduit.
5. Carefully lift up the fuel rail. Make sure you have absorbent, paper or the like handy to soak up fuel which runs out of the fuel rail/injectors.
6. Remove the two protective rails and unplug the injector connectors.
7. Remove the locking clips securing the injectors to the fuel rail and withdraw the injectors.

To Install
Install in reverse order.

NOTE: Lubricate the O-ring's with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to facilitate reassembly.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the right connector is plugged into the right injector (the cables are marked).

IMPORTANT: In connection with component checking or replacement entailing the removal of the resonating chamber, special attention should always be paid to the condition and positioning of the two O-rings.

Swollen or incorrectly positioned O-rings give rise to air leakage which in its turn could cause drive ability problems and the generation of diagnostic trouble codes in the control module with consequent fault diagnosis and rectification procedures.
