Background
Hot water vapour from the turbocharger may lead to rapid ageing of the expansion tank and result in cracks which lead to coolant leakage.
In the case of customer complaint, the following procedure must be carried out.
Symptom description
Coolant leakage from the expansion tank at the mating surface.
Parts required
93 194 927 Hose kit
12 759 330 Expansion tank
93 165 162 Coolant (5 litres)
CA: Use 10953031 (1 l) or 10953464 (3.78 l)
Procedure
1. Undo the expansion tank cap (A) and release the overpressure.
2. Remove the upper engine cover (B).
3. Raise the car.
4. Undo the right-hand side of the spoiler shield (A).
5. Position a suitable receptacle under the radiator. Connect a hose (A) to the radiator (B) and drain the coolant. Close the cock and refit the spoiler shield.
6. Lower the car.
7. Detach the breather hose (A) and the turbocharger cooling return hose (B). Retain the hose clips.
8. Turn up the expansion tank and unplug the level sensor connector (A).
9. Remove the coolant hose's quick coupling (B) from the expansion tank.
10. Remove the expansion tank (C).
11. Fit the coolant hose's quick coupling (B) to the new expansion tank (C).
12. Plug in the level sensor connector (A).
13. Fit the expansion tank (C).
14. Attach the new breather hose (A) and the new return hose for the turbocharger cooling (B).
NOTE:
New routing of hoses, see illustration.
15. Fit the upper engine cover.
16. Test pressurize the cooling system, in accordance with WIS - Engine - V6 petrol - Cooling system - Test pressurizing the cooling system.
17. Fill with coolant, in accordance with WIS - Engine - V6 petrol - Bleeding and charging the cooling system, B284
