Master Cylinder Replacement



Master Cylinder Replacement
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution (Brake Fluid Irritant Caution).

Removal Procedure




1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Disconnect the master cylinder fluid level sensor connector.




3. Disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder.





Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake hose fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.


4. Plug the brake pipes.




5. Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts.
6. Remove the master cylinder assembly.
7. Drain the master cylinder of brake fluid.

Installation Procedure




1. Bench bleed the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding (Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding).




2. Install the master cylinder assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

3. Install the master cylinder mounting nuts.

Tighten the master cylinder mounting nuts to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).




4. Remove the rubber plugs from the brake lines.




5. Connect the brake pipes.

Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).




6. Connect the master cylinder fluid level sensor connector.
7. Bleed the hydraulic brakes system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual) (Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Manual))Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure) (Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure)).
