Malfunction Lamp / Indicator: Description and Operation

The lamp driver module is directly under the I/P top cover, located in a turquoise harness connector with cover. The connector is attached to the cross car beam with Velcro(r). Lamp driver circuit boards can be removed by opening connector cover and prying out with a small blade screwdriver.

The purpose of the lamp driver module is to turn on the air bag telltale. The module turns on the air bag telltale, whenever the SDM is providing a signal on circuit 875. Under normal operation with B+ to the lamp driver and a signal on circuit 875 from the SDM, the lamp driver opens the air bag telltale's ground path, turning Off the telltale.
