Mode Cable (RHD Domestic Only)

MODE CABLE (RHD DOMESTIC ONLY)

REMOVAL




1. Loosen upper trim panel:
a. Remove screws located under upper trim panel on passenger's side of vehicle.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage VIN plate when removing or replacing upper trim panel.

b. Disengage clips at locations by grasping edges of upper trim panel and lifting up.




2. Loosen steering column filler panel screws.

NOTE: Do not remove weatherstrips. Adhesion will be lost if removed.




3. Remove right endcap assembly.
a. Remove screws.
b. Carefully disengage clips at I/P retainer assembly locations. Use of a blunt tool will aid in disengaging clips.
c. Maneuver the assemblies past inner I/P retainer assembly and weatherstrips.




4. Remove screws from lower steering column shroud.
5. Lower steering column by pushing down on steering column adjusting handle.
6. Lift and remove upper shroud from steering column.




7. Remove I/P bezel:
a. Disengage clips from retainer assembly by grasping edges of bezel near clip location and pull outward.
b. Depress wiring harness connector tabs and remove harnesses from dimmer/traction control switch assembly.




8. Remove I/P compartment.
a. Open I/P compartment door.
b. Turn right and left I/P compartment door stop assemblies to release door and compartment assembly from I/P retainer assembly.

NOTE: Lower I/P door pins are on the right and left outside edges at base of the compartment.

c. Push lower I/P door pins from the outside of the door to inside I/P compartment.




9. Remove radio:
a. Remove radio screws.
b. Pull radio out slightly to access rear of radio.
c. Disconnect electrical connector, antenna, and ground strap connector.




10. Remove mode cable:
a. Disconnect HVAC blower switch connector.
b. Disconnect HVAC control head connector.

Cable identification:
Temperature cable - White
Mode cable- Black




c. Remove mode cable by squeezing lock tabs together while pulling cable (coiled end) straight up beyond retaining tabs.




11. Rotate mode cam fully counterclockwise.




12. Remove mode cable housing from retainer clip by pressing upward on upper tab of clip while gently pulling outward on mode cable housing.




13. Remove mode cable eyelet from mode cam pin by pressing mode cable eyelet towards module case while rotating mode cable outward.
14. Remove mode cable.

INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT




1. Rotate mode cam fully counterclockwise.





IMPORTANT:
^ Install mode cable with wire eyelet wrap as shown.
^ Do not install mode cable housing into retainer clip at this time.

Cable identification:
Temperature cable - White
Mode cable- Black




2. Install mode cable eyelet between mode cam pin and module case and rotate onto mode cam pin.




3. Install mode cable over HVAC control pin.
4. Install mode cable housing into channel and push down to lock into place.




5. Place HVAC control mode knob completely to the right - defroster position.




6. Verify that mode cam is still in full counterclockwise position.
7. Press mode cable housing firmly into retainer clip to lock.
8. Move HVAC control mode knob through modes to verify proper installation.

IMPORTANT: Make sure wiring harnesses do not interfere with control lever movement.




9. Install HVAC controller:
a. Install blower switch connector.
b. Install HVAC controller connector.




10. Install radio:
a. Connect wiring harness(es).
b. Connect ground strap.
c. Connect antenna lead.
d. Install screws.

Torque: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)




11. Install I/P compartment.
a. Position I/P compartment door assembly to retainer assembly.
b. Install I/P compartment door pins into instrument panel retainer assembly.
c. Lift I/P compartment enough to install I/P compartment door stop assemblies.
d. Close I/P compartment door.




12. Install I/P cluster bezel:
a. Connect dimmer/traction control switch wiring harnesses.
b. Position I/P cluster bezel by lining up clip location.
c. Snap I/P cluster bezel in place by pushing at clip locations.




13. Position upper shroud.
14. Position lower shroud and install screws.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that endcap bottom portion is inside of the filler panel assembly.




15. Install right endcap assembly:
a. Maneuver the assembly past inner I/P retainer assembly and weatherstrips.
b. Snap clips into I/P retainer assembly locations.
c. Install screws.

Torque: 2.2 N.m (20 in-lbs)




16. Install steering column filler panel screws.

Torque: 2.2 N.m (20 in-lbs)




17. Install I/P upper trim panel:
a. Position upper trim panel on retainer assembly.
b. Align tabs on sides of upper trim panel with openings in windshield garnish molding.
c. Align clips and clip location.
d. Firmly snap in clips at clip locations.
e. Install screws on underside of upper trim panel on passenger's side of vehicle.

Torque: 6 N.m (53 in-lbs)
