Removal and Installation
REMOVALNOTE: Always align the front wheels to the straight ahead position when removing or installing a coil assembly.
If a coil is removed without the wheels in the straight ahead position, the same coil may be installed if the steering shaft and coil hub have not rotated.
1. Disable SIR system. (Refer to "Disabling SIR System" procedure.)
2. Remove driver inflator module.
3. Remove steering wheel.
4. Remove ignition switch bezel.
5. Remove lower steering column cover.
6. Separate coil wire harness from rosebud-type fastener below steering column.
7. Disconnect horn/cruise connector.
8. Remove coil retaining screws.
9. Guide coil wire harness from below steering column.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: New coil assemblies have a yellow plastic tab to prevent rotation. Do not remove this tab until after steering wheel installation.
1. Route wiring through rectangular slot below steering shaft.
2. Position coil and install retaining screws.
3. Connect horn/cruise connector.
4. Fasten coil wire harness to rosebud-type fastener below steering column.
5. Install steering column covers.
Torque: 4 N.m (35 in-lbs)
6. Install ignition switch bezel.
7. Install steering wheel.
8. Install driver inflator module.
9. Enable SIR system. (Refer to "Enabling SIR System" procedure.)
