Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the cover of the diagnostic connection.
2. Remove the bellows (2) for the parking brake lever out of the central console and draw up to the hand grip (1).
3. Loosen the parking brake cable at the parking brake lever by turning back the adjusting nuts (3).
4. Remove the rear wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).




5. Remove the front exhaust pipe and the mid muffler. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake caliper.

* Push down the brake caliper actuation lever with the screwdriver and remove the parking brake cable.
* Remove the retaining clip from the parking brake cable.
* Remove the parking brake cable out of the retainer.

7. Remove the rubber exhaust mounts (2) for mid muffler from the vehicle underbody.
8. Remove the heat shield of the mid muffler from the vehicle underbody.
Remove the 7 nuts (1).
9. Twist the front end of the parking brake cable (3) 90 degrees and remove from the parking brake cable compensator.
10. Remove the parking brake cable from the rear axle retainers, rear axle bracket and the fuel tanks (4).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the parking brake cable in the retainers on the rear axle, the rear axle bracket and to retainers (1) on the fuel tank.

Note: Ensure the T-piece at the front end of the parking brake cable is seated correctly in the parking brake cable compensator (arrow).

2. Position the front of the parking brake cables (2) into the parking brake cable compensator and twist by 90 degrees.
3. Push the protective sleeve for the front of the parking brake cables (4) in the direction of the parking brake cable compensator until it passes over the bulges (3) on the parking brake cable.
4. Install the parking brake cable to the brake caliper.

* Insert the parking brake cable into the retainer.
* Install the new retaining clip to the parking brake cable.
* Push down the actuating lever for the brake caliper with a screwdriver.
* Hook the parking brake cable into the actuating lever for the brake caliper.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Install the heat shield of the mid muffler (7) to the vehicle underbody.
Install the 7 nuts.

Tighten the heat shield nuts to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

6. Install the rubber exhaust mounts for the mid muffler (8) to the vehicle underbody.
7. Install the front exhaust pipe (5) and the mid muffler (6). Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the rear wheels.
9. Adjust the parking brake lever path. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment (Adjustments).
