Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Coil Replacement
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions).
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Wait 1 minute for the airbag to deactivate.
Note: Ensure that the retaining wire is not bent.
3. Remove the drivers side airbag.
* Turn the steering wheel 90 degrees (I).
* Push the retaining wire in the direction of the steering column using a small screwdriver in the service opening (II) and remove the airbag module.
* Release and disconnect the wiring harness plug.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1) for the horn.
Note: Ensure that the wheels are in a straight ahead position.
5. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column.
* Remove the bolt (2).
* Pull the steering wheel from the steering shaft.
6. Remove the turn signal switch paneling.
* Remove the 2 panels.
* Remove the 2 bolts (arrows).
* Raise the upper paneling (1).
* Remove the 3 bolts (arrows).
* Remove the lower paneling (2).
7. Remove the steering wheel coil module.
* Remove the 3 bolts (arrows).
* Disconnect the wiring harness plug.
* Disconnect and remove the wiring harness clamp.
* Remove the steering wheel coil module.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the steering wheel coil module.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
* Connect the wiring harness plug.
* Insert the steering wheel coil module.
* Install the wiring harness clamp.
Tighten the 3 bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
2. Install the turn signal switch paneling.
* Insert the lower paneling.
Tighten the 3 bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
* Insert the upper paneling.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
* Install the 2 panels.
Note:
* Ensure that the marks on the steering wheel and the steering shaft align.
* Clean the thread and fit the new bolt with the locking compound.
3. Install the steering wheel to the steering shaft.
Install the steering wheel to the steering column.
Tighten the bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
4. Connect the wiring harness plug for the signal horn/Infotainment.
5. Install the driver side airbag.
* Connect and latch the wiring harness plug.
* Install the 2 clips.
6. Perform the readiness inspection.
7. Connect the battery.
