Brake Drum: Service and Repair

Rear Drum Brake Drum

REMOVAL

1) Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
2) Release the parking brake.
3) Remove the brake drum from brake assembly.

NOTE:
^ If it is difficult to remove the brake drum, remove the adjusting hole cover, then turn the adjuster assembly claws using a flat tip screwdriver until the brake shoe separates from the drum.





^ If the brake drum is difficult to remove, drive it out by installing an 8-mm bolt into bolt hole in brake drum.





INSTALLATION

Install each part in the reverse order of removal.

INSPECTION

1) If the inside surface of the brake drum has scratches, perform inspection. And, if it is unevenly worn, has narrow streaks on the surface, or the outside surface of brake drum is damaged, correct or replace it.
2) Measure the drum inner diameter. If it exceeds service limits, replace with a new drum.

Drum inner diameter L:
Standard value 254 mm (10 in)
Limit: 256 mm (10.08 in)
