Countershaft: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove transmission housing.

2. Clamp counter driven gear with Special Tool (A): 09921-57810, or equivalent and a vice.
3. Unstake lock section of lock nut for vehicle speed sensor.
4. Remove lock nut for vehicle speed sensor, using Special Tool (B): 09927-76050, or equivalent.

NOTE: Do not reuse lock nut for vehicle speed sensor once removed .

5. Remove cylindrical roller bearing by pressing differential drive pinion, using hydraulic press.

ASSEMBLY

1. Press differential drive pinion to counter driven gear, using hydraulic press.
2. Coat inner surface of cylindrical roller bearing with A/T

3. Press cylindrical roller bearing, using Special Tools (A): 09951-16060, or equivalent and hydraulic press.

4. Tighten new lock nut for vehicle speed sensor, using Special Tools (A): 09921-57810 and (B): 09927-76050, or equivalent.
Tightening Torque (a): 125 Nm (190.5 ft. lbs.)

5. Stake new lock nut for vehicle speed sensor, using standard punch in combination with hammer.

NOTE: When staking lock nut for vehicle speed sensor, point a suitable staking tool toward differential drive pinion shaft axis center and stake lock nut securely, as shown in the figure. (Poor staking may cause abnormal noise.)

6. Apply A/T fluid to thrust needle roller bearing and race.
Race with bearing dimension.
Outside diameter: Approximately 65.8 mm (2.59 inch)
Inside diameter: Approximately 51.0 mm (2.01 inch)
Thickness: Approximately 2.7 mm (0.11 inch)
7. Place thrust needle roller bearing and race to transmission case.

8. Apply A/T fluid to thrust needle roller bearing and race.
Race with bearing dimension.
Outside diameter: Approximately 45.7 mm (1.80 inch)
Inside diameter: Approximately 30.0 mm (1.18 inch)
Thickness: Approximately 3.0 mm (0.12 inch)
9. Place thrust needle roller bearing and race to transmission case.
10. Install counter driven gear to transmission case.
