Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

DTC Clearance

Pending and Confirmed DTC
1. With ignition mode of keyless push start system in "OFF", connect CAN communication OBDII generic scan tool or SUZUKI scan tool to DLC.
2. Push engine switch to change the ignition mode to "ON".
3. Erase DTC according to instructions displayed on scan tool. Freeze frame data is cleared with the DTC. Refer to scan tool operator's manual for details.
4. After completing the clearance, push engine switch to change the ignition mode to "OFF" and disconnect scan tool from DLC.

NOTE:
Pending and confirmed DTC and freeze frame data stored in ECM memory are also cleared in the following cases. Be careful not to clear them before saving their records.
- When power to ECM is cut off (by disconnecting battery cable, removing fuse or disconnecting ECM (connectors)).
- When the same malfunction (DTC) is not detected again during 40 engine warm-up cycles, refer to Warm-up Cycle of OBD System Description.
- Even though the pending and confirmed DTCs are cleared, the permanent DTC will not be cleared.

Permanent DTC
When ECM detects no malfunction in the trouble area of the stored permanent DTC and has determined that the condition is normal, MIL turns off and the permanent DTC is cleared. However, the following is a clearance procedure for the permanent DTC as well.

1. With ignition mode of keyless push start system in "OFF", connect CAN communication OBDII generic scan tool or SUZUKI scan tool to DLC.
2. Push engine switch to change the ignition mode to "ON".
3. Clear the pending and confirmed DTCs.
4. Display the permanent DTC on scan tool. (Refer to scan tool operator's manual for details.)
5. Execute the corresponding DTC confirmation procedure in the DTC diagnostic flow and confirm that the pending and current DTCs cannot be detected. At this time, if the DTC confirmation procedure does not satisfy any of the following conditions, execute the DTC confirmation procedure so as to satisfy such conditions.
- The engine operated for more than 12 minutes.
- The vehicle driven for more than 6 minutes at more than 45 km/h (28 mi/h).
- The engine idled for more than 1 minute.

6. Select permanent DTC display mode on scan tool and check that the permanent DTC is cleared.
If the permanent DTC has not been cleared, repeat step 5) again.
