Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair

EVAP Canister Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Do not remove EVAP leak check module from EVAP canister, otherwise EVAP canister and EVAP leak check module could be damaged.

Removal
1. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2. Hoist vehicle.
3. For 4WD model, remove rear suspension frame.
4. Disconnect EVAP leak check module connector (1).
5. Disconnect suction pipe (2) from EVAP leak check module and disconnect filler pipe (3) and purge pipe (4) from EVAP canister as follows:
a. Remove mud or rust around joint by blowing compressed air and release joint lock by fully pushing joint in direction of arrow.
b. Disconnect pipe joint while joint lock is released.

6. Remove EVAP canister (5) and EVAP leak check module as assembly.






Installation
Reverse removal procedure noting the following points:
- Tighten EVAP canister bolts to specified torque.
- When installing hoses, do not apply soap, grease or oil to insertion part.
- Install purge pipe (1) to EVAP canister as shown in figure.






- Before connecting quick joint, clean inside of quick joint and outside of pipe.
- For quick joint, push joint into pipe till joint lock clicks and then check that quick joint does not disengage by pulling quick joint in arrow direction.
