CAUTION:
Lock steering wheel before performing the following steps to avoid damage to contact coil.
Removal
1) Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2) Hoist vehicle.
3) Remove steering lower shaft from steering gear case.
4) Remove front seat.
5) Remove glove box, center console box, side sill inner front scuff and dash side trim.
6) Turn over floor carpet on passenger's side floor.
7) Remove P/S control module cover.
8) Remove P/S motor connector (1), rotation angle/torque sensor connector (2) and ground wire (3) from P/S control module and pull these harnesses into the engine compartment.
9) Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
10) Remove cotter pin (2) and tie-rod end nut (1) from steering knuckle.
11) Disconnect tie-rod end (1) from steering knuckle (2) using ball joint remover (3).
12) Remove steering gear case and front stabilizer bar together with front suspension frame.
13) Remove steering gear case (2) from front suspension frame (1).
14) Remove grommet from vehicle side.
Installation
1) Install steering gear case (2) to front suspension frame (1).
2) Tighten steering gear case bolts to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Steering gear case bolt (a): 135 Nm (13.8 kg-m, 99.5 lbf-ft)
3) Fit hole (1) of grommet to convex (2) of steering gear case.
4) Install grommet to steering gear case (3).
5) Install steering gear packing (1) to the dash panel while aligning its matchmark "b" with matchmark "a" on the dash panel (cabin side).
6) Insert P/S motor connector, rotation angle sensor connector and ground wire inside vehicle and install front suspension frame to vehicle.
7) Secure harness clamp between P/S motor and P/S control module to suspension frame.
8) Install tie-rod end to steering knuckle.
9) Install wheel.
10) Connect P/S motor connector (1), rotation angle sensor/torque sensor connector (2) and ground wire (3) to P/S control module.
11) Install P/S control module cover.
12) Install floor carpet.
13) Install glove box, center console box, side sill inner front scuff and dash side trim.
14) Install front seat.
15) Install steering lower shaft to steering gear case assembly.
16) Inspect toe.
17) Tighten tie-rod end lock nut to specified torque after confirming toe is specified value.
Tightening torque
Tie-rod end lock nut (a): 55 Nm (5.6 kg-m, 40.5 lbf-ft)
