Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
Pay attention to following points when compressing coil spring, you may get injured.
^ Attach spring compressor to coil spring securely.
^ Do not use impact wrench to compress coil spring.
^ When using a commercially available spring compressor, follow the operation procedure described in the instruction manual supplied with that spring compressor.


1) Hoist vehicle and remove rear wheel.
2) Remove rear fender lining.
3) Attach special tool to coil spring (1) as shown.
Turn special tool bolts alternately until coil spring (1) tension does not work any more. Rotate coil spring (1) around its axis to confirm that lower arm and body are free of spring tension.

Special Tool
(A): 09943-25010

4) Remove rear shock absorber support bolt (2), rear shock absorber lower bolt (3) and washer (4).
5) Remove rear shock absorber (5).





6) Remove coil spring from vehicle with coil spring compressed by special tool.
7) Remove special tool from coil spring if necessary to separate upper spring seat (1) and coil spring (2).





Installation
1) Install upper spring seat (2) to coil spring (1).





2) Compress coil spring using special tool.

Special Tool
: 09943-25010

3) Install coil spring (1) to vehicle.

NOTE:
Fit bottom end of coil spring (1) to stepped part [a] in lower spring seat (2).





4) Install rear shock absorber (1) and tighten rear shock absorber support bolts (2) in numerical order ("1" --> "3") to specified torque.

CAUTION:
Rear shock absorber support bolt is pre-coated with friction stabilizer. Never reuse bolt. Otherwise, bolt may loosen.


Tightening torque
Rear shock absorber support bolt (a): 60 Nm (6.1 kg-m, 44.5 lbf-ft)

5) Install washer (4) and tighten new rear shock absorber lower bolt (3) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Rear shock absorber lower bolt (a): 50 Nm (5.1 kg-m, 37.0 lbf-ft)

CAUTION:
Rear shock absorber lower bolt is pre-coated with friction stabilizer. Never reuse bolt. Otherwise, bolt may loosen.






6) Remove special tool from coil spring.
7) Install rear fender lining.
8) Install rear wheel.
