Front Wheel Hub and Steering Knuckle Removal and Installation

Front Wheel Hub and Steering Knuckle Removal and Installation

Removal
1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel.
2) Release caulking from drive shaft nut (1) and remove drive shaft nut with brake pedal depressed.

CAUTION:
Insufficient release of caulking may cause damage to the drive shaft thread.


NOTE:
Carefully use a sharp-tipped bit to release the caulking.





3) Remove front brake disc.
4) Disconnect front wheel speed sensor from steering knuckle.
5) Remove front wheel hub assembly bolts (1), and then remove front wheel hub assembly with brake disc dust cover from steering knuckle.

NOTE:
Lightly tap shaft end of wheel hub side when it is difficult to remove front drive shaft assembly.





6) Disconnect tie-rod end from steering knuckle.
7) Disconnect suspension arm from steering knuckle.
8) Disconnect strut from steering knuckle.
9) Remove hub bolts (1) with hydraulic press.





Installation
Reverse removal procedure for installation noting the following points:
^ Insert new hub bolts (1) in hub holes. Rotate hub bolts slowly to assure that serrations are aligned with those made by original bolts.

CAUTION:
Be sure to use new hub bolts.






^ Apply grease to mating surface of front wheel hub assembly (1) and drive shaft (2).
"A": Grease 99000-25011 (SUZUKI Super Grease A)





NOTE:
Mind the direction of the brake disk dust cover when installing the brake disk dust cover together with front wheel hub assembly to the steering knuckle.

^ Tighten front wheel hub assembly bolts to specified torque.

Tightening torque
Front wheel hub assembly bolt (a): 70 Nm (7.1 kg-m, 52.0 lbf-ft)





^ Tighten new drive shaft nut to specified torque, loosen it one rotation or more, and then retighten it to specified torque.
^ Check front wheel Alignment.
