Removal


1. Depressurize system, then remove clutch as described in "Compressor Clutch, Replace."
2. Remove key and shims from compressor shaft.

3. Remove seal seat retaining snap ring, then the seal seat using tool No. J-9393-2 or equivalent. Engage tool jaws onto groove of the seal seat, Fig. 3.

4. Using tool No. J-29639 or equivalent, remove seal cartridge from compressor shaft. Insert tool into cavity until it contacts seal frame. Rotate tool until tangs on tool enter slots in frame. Push against seal and continue to rotate until tangs are engaged with seal frame. Pull seal out of cavity, continuing to apply pressure in same direction of rotation used to engage tool with seal frame, Fig. 4.

5. Remove seal seat O-ring from its groove, Fig. 5.
