Dashpot: Adjustments

Fig. 48 Checking Dash Pot Setting Speed:

1. Warm up engine.
2. Check idle speed.
3. Remove cap, filter and separator from DP.
4. Check DP setting speed.
a. Maintain engine speed at 2,500 rpm.
b. Plug the VTV hole with your finger, Fig. 48
c. Release the throttle valve.
d. Check the DP setting speed.

DP Setting Speed: 2,000 rpm (w/ Cooling Fan OFF)

5. If not as specified, adjust with the DP adjusting screw, Fig. 49
6. Check operation of VTV
a. Set the DP speed in the same procedure as above.
b. Release the plugged hole and check that the engine returns to idle in approx. 1 second. If not as described check for sticking plunger and replace if a problem is found.
7. Reinstall DP separator, filter and cap.
