NUMBER 028 (REVISED)
DATE 11-09-90
MODEL '89 SV, VV
TITLE: UPPER WINDSHIELD MOLDING WIND NOISE

TMC Camry's produced from January 1989 through July 1990 may exhibit a wind noise (whistle or vibration) that originates from the upper windshield molding. From 6/89 to 5/90 production, the thickness of the rubber lip on the rear of the upper molding was increased to eliminate this noise. From 6/90 production on, a molding material change was also made and the lower portion of the molding contact surface at the windshield was extended to further prevent noise.

CONDITION:
To confirm the location of this type of wind noise, apply adhesive tape along the full length of the upper windshield molding to see if the noise is eliminated. If so, an application of sealant may prevent this noise from occurring.

CORRECTION:
To correct this wind noise on effected vehicles, inject a flow grade sealant (such as Permatex Windshield & Glass Seal) underneath the molding along the top of windshield, between the molding and roof (see figure).
If this repair is not effective, replacement of the upper windshield molding with the new part may be necessary.
