Clutch Pedal Assembly: Adjustments

1. Measure clutch pedal height as shown, Fig. 1.
2. On 1989 Camry models, clutch pedal height should be 7.52-7.91 inches, 7.13-7.52 inches on 1990-91 and 6.33-6.72 inch on 1992 Camry with 5S-FE engine or 6.48-6.88 inch on 1992 Camry with 3VZ-FE engine.
3. On Corolla models, clutch pedal height should be 5.71-6.10 inch.
4. On all models, if clutch pedal height is not as specified, remove lower instrument panel finish panel and air duct.
5. Loosen clutch pedal locknut, then rotate stopper bolt until specified height is achieved.
6. Tighten locknut.
7. Check clutch pedal freeplay by depressing clutch pedal until resistance is felt. Freeplay should be .197-.591 inch. pushrod play at top of pedal should be .039-.197 inch.
8. If necessary to adjust freeplay, loosen locknut and rotate pushrod until freeplay is as specified.
9. Tighten locknut.
10. Ensure clutch pedal height and freeplay are as specified, then reinstall air duct and finish panel.
