Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Drain engine coolant from radiator.
2. On A/T models, disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage.
3. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
4. Remove air cleaner cap, airflow meter and air cleaner hose.

Air Cleaner:





5. Disconnect TPS connector.
6. Disconnect hoses:
a. PCV hose
b. Water by-pass hose
c. Emission control vacuum hoses
7. On A/T models, remove the two bolts and throttle cable bracket.
8. Remove four bolts (M/T models), or three bolts (A/T models) and remove the throttle body and gasket.


INSTALLATION:

1. Install a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake plenum.
2. On M/T models, install the throttle body using the four mounting bolts. Torque the bolts evenly to 9 ft.lbs. (13 N-m).
3. On A/T models, install the throttle body using the three mounting bolts. Torque the bolts evenly to 9 ft.lbs. (13 N-m).

Installing Throttle Body:





4. On A/T models, attach the throttle cable bracket with the two bolts. Torque the mounting bolts to 9 ft.lbs. (13 N-m).
5. Connect hoses:
a. PCV hose
b. Water by-pass hose
c. Emission control vacuum hoses
6. Connect TPS connector.
7. Connect air cleaner cap, airflow meter and air cleaner hose.
8. Connect accelerator cable and adjust. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for proper procedure.
9. On A/T models, connect throttle cable.
10. Fill radiator with coolant.
11. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
