Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Remove the fuel rail, following the procedures given in FUEL RAIL.
2. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose from the FPR and remove the four injector cover screws.

Removing Injector Cover:

3. Apply a film of gasoline around each injector to ease in removal of injector from fuel rail.

Using Gasoline To Remove Injectors From Fuel Rail:

4. Position Toyota SST 09268-74010 under the tip of an injector.

CAUTION: DO NOT use a flat surface punch or other such blunt object to remove the fuel injectors. Damage to the injector tip will result.

5. Using both hands, push down on the fuel rail and press the injector out through the top.

Pushing Injector From Fuel Rail Using SST:

6. Pull all injectors from the fuel rail from the top.
7. Remove the insulators and both O-rings from the injectors.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install a new insulator and two new O-rings on each fuel injector.

Fuel Injector O-Rings And Insulator:

2. Coat O-rings with a light coat of gasoline to ease insertion into fuel rail.
3. Place the fuel rail on a firm surface and using only thumb pressure, press each injector into the fuel rail. Position injector connectors as shown in image.

Installing Injectors In Fuel Rail:

4. Install new upper insulators on injectors.

Installing New Upper Insulators On Injectors:

5. Install injector cover with the four screws. Torque the screws to 69 in.lbs. (7.8 N-m).
6. Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the vacuum pipe on the fuel rail.
7. Reinstall the fuel rail with the injectors, following the procedures given in FUEL RAIL.
