Oil Pump Replace

REMOVAL

NOTE: When repairing the oil pump, the oil pan and strainer should be removed and cleaned.





1. Disconnect cable from negative terminal of battery.

CAUTION (With Airbag): To avoid accidental air bag deployment work must be started after approx. 30 seconds or longer from the time the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.

2. Remove hood.
3. Remove engine under covers.
4. Drain engine oil.





5. Remove suspension lower crossmember.





6. Remove front exhaust pipe.





7. Remove engine mounting center member.





8. Remove the three bolts and stiffener plate.





9. Remove oil pan.
a. Remove the dipstick.
b. Remove the seventeen bolts and two nuts.





c. Insert the blade of SST 09032-00100 between the cylinder block and oil pan, and cut off applied sealer and remove the oil pan.

CAUTION:

^ Do not use SST for the oil pump body and rear oil seal retainer.

^ Be careful not to damage the oil pan flange.

10. Remove the bolt, nuts, oil strainer and gasket.





11. Suspend engine with engine sling device.
12. Remove timing belt.





13. Remove the bolt and No. 2 idler pulley





14. Remove crankshaft timing pulley. If the pulley cannot be removed by hand, use two screwdrivers.

NOTE: Position shop rags as shown to prevent damage.





15. Remove oil pump pulley using SST 09616-30011, remove the nut and pulley.





16. Remove oil pump.
a. Remove the twelve bolts.





b. Using a plastic-faced hammer, remove the oil pump by carefully tapping the oil pump body.
c. Remove the gasket.





INSTALLATION

1. Install a new gasket and the oil pump with the twelve bolts.
Torque: 9.3 Nm (82 in lb)

NOTE: Long bolts are indicated in the illustration.
Bolt length:
Long bolt 35 mm (1.38 in.)
Others 25 mm (0.98 in.)





2. Install oil pump pulley.
a. Align the cutouts of the pulley and shaft, and side on the pulley.





b. Using SST 09616-30011, install the nut.
Torque: 28 Nm (21 ft lb)





3. Install crankshaft timing pulley.
a. Align the timing pulley set key with the key groove of the pulley.
b. Slide on the timing pulley, facing the flange side inward.





4. Install No.2 idler pulley.
a. Install the pulley with the bolt.
Torque: 42 Nm (31 ft lb)

NOTE: Use bolt 35 mm (1.38 in.) in length.

b. Check that the idler pulley moves smoothly.
5. Install timing belt.
6. Remove engine sling device.





7. Install a new gasket and the oil strainer with bolt and nuts.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (48 in lb)





8. Install oil pan.
9. Install the stiffener plate with the three bolts.
Torque: 37 Nm (27 ft lb)





10. Install engine mounting center member.





11. Install front exhaust pipe.
a. Place two new gaskets on the front and rear of the front exhaust pipe.
b. Temporarily install the two bolts and two new nuts holding front exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter (center exhaust pipe).
c. Using a 14 mm deep socket wrench, install the three new nuts holding the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold (catalytic converter).
Torque: 62 Nm (46 ft lb)
d. Tighten the two bolts and two nuts holding front exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter (center exhaust pipe).
Torque: 43 Nm (32 ft lb)
e. Install the bracket with the two bolts.





12. Install suspension lower crossmember.
13. Connect cable to negative terminal of battery.
14. Fill with engine oil.
15. Start engine and check for leaks.
16 Recheck engine oil level.
17. Install hood.
