TITLE: '90 CELICA ENGINE IDLE ADJUSTMENT AFTER A/C INSTALLATION

To adjust idle speed after installation of Air Conditioning on a 1990 Celica with 5S-FE engine, use the following procedure:

ADJUSTING PROCEDURE:

Before starting the adjustment procedure, warm-up the engine by holding it above 2500 rpm for a minimum of 2 minutes.

1. With the engine off, connect terminal "TE1" and "E1" by using a shorting pin SST P/N 09843-18020. Terminals "TE1" and "E1" are located in the Diagnostic Check Connecter near the power brake cylinder.
2. Set the parking brake, put the transmission in "Park" or "N", then start the engine.

3. Remove vacuum hose marked " # * " from the top port of the ASV as shown in figure 1. Remove vacuum hose marked " # 0 " from the VSV, and connect it to the top port of the ASV as shown in figure 2.

NOTE: This will activate A/C idle-up.

4. Adjust the following Components/Accessories:

^ All electrical load off.

^ Tires straight to alleviate power steering pump load.

^ Switch the "A/C" button "OFF".

^ Set Blower Fan Speed Control switch to "OFF".

5. With the condenser fan not running, check that the idle speed is 1200 +/- 50 rpm.

6. If the idle speed is out of this range, use a screwdriver to adjust the ASV engine idle speed adjustment screw so that it is 1200 +/- 50 rpm.

7. Restore Vacuum Hoses to their original positions as shown below, turn off engine, remove the SST and close the cover to the Diagnostic Check Connecter.
