Valve Body: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Clean area around pan, then drain transmission fluid, then remove engine undercover.
2. Remove oil pan and gasket, then the oil strainer.
3. On A131L, A241E, A241L, A243L and A244E models, remove apply tube bracket attaching bolts, then the apply tube.
4. On all models, remove oil tubes using a suitable screwdriver, then the manual detent spring.
5. On A131L models, remove manual valve, then the manual valve body.
6. On A240L, A241E, A241H, A241L, A243L and A244E models, disconnect solenoid connector.
7. On all models, remove valve body attaching bolts, then disconnect throttle cable.
8. On A240L, A241E, A241H, A241L and A243L models, disconnect manual valve connecting rod.
9. On all models, remove valve body, then the governor apply gasket.
10. On A131L models, remove governor oil strainer.


Installation
1. On A131L models, install governor oil strainer.
2. On all models, install governor apply gasket.
3. On A240E, A241E, A240L, A241H, A241L, A243L and A244E models, connect manual valve connecting rod.
4. On all models, hold valve body in place, then manually retain cam in downward position and slip cable end into slot.

5. Position valve body in installation position, then insert and finger tighten attaching bolts. Tighten to specifications. Attaching bolt lengths (mm) are indicated in, Figs. 5 through 8.
6. On models except A131L, connect solenoid connector.
7. On A131L models, align manual valve with pin on manual valve lever, then install manual valve body.
8. Insert and finger tighten attaching bolts, then tighten to specifications.
9. On all models, install detent spring, then insert and finger tighten attaching bolt. Tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
10. Ensure manual lever is in contact with center of roller at tip of detent spring, then install oil tubes.
11. On A240E, A241E, A240L, A241L, A241H, A243L and A244E models, install and torque tube clamp attaching bolt to specifications.
12. On A131L models, install apply tube bracket, torque to specifications.
13. On all models, install oil strainer.
14. Insert magnet into pan, then install oil pan with new gasket.
15. Insert oil pan attaching bolts, then tighten to specifications.
16. Install drain plug with new gasket, then tighten to specifications.
17. Install engine undercover.
18. Fill transaxle to specifications, then ensure proper fluid level.
