Dashpot: Testing and Inspection
1. Start engine and warm-up to normal operating temperature.2. Check that idle speed is 800 rpm.
3. Remove cap, filter and separator from dash pot.
Dashpot - Exploded View:
4. Using a jumper wire, short terminals TE1 and E1 of the engine check connector.
5. Disconnect the EGR vacuum switching valve connector.
Disconnecting EGR VSV Connector:
6. Maintain engine speed at 3,000 rpm with the throttle valve. Use your finger to plug the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) hole inside DP housing.
Plug The VTV Hole:
7. Release the throttle valve and check DP setting speed.
DP Setting Speed:
(M/T) 1,800 rpm
(A/T) 2,200 rpm
NOTE: All setting speeds are with the cooling fan OFF.
8. If not as specified, adjust the DP adjusting screw.
Adjusting The DP Setting Speed:
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7. Release your finger from the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) hole.
10. The engine should return to normal idle speed in about one second.
11. If a problem is found, replace the dash pot.
12. Reinstall the separator, the filter and the cap.
13. Reconnect the EGR VSV connector and remove jumper wire from the engine check connector.
