Valve adjustment is accomplished by installing shims to achieve the proper valve clearance. Shims are available in .0020 inch (.050mm) increments, Fig. 15. Clearance of .006-.010 inch on intake valves and .008-.012 inch on exhaust valves should be indicated.
1. With No. 1 piston at TDC on compression stroke, adjust the following cylinders valves to specification:
No. 1 Intake & Exhaust
No. 2 Intake
No. 3 Exhaust
2. Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation one full revolution (360°) and adjust the following cylinders valves to specification:
No. 2 Exhaust
No. 3 Intake
No. 4 Intake and Exhaust
