Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Ignition Wire Removal:





2. Disconnect the secondary ignition wires from the spark plugs and ignition coil.

3. Disconnect the primary coil wire connectors.

Distributor Hold Down Bolts:





4. Remove the distributor hold down bolts and remove the distributor from the cylinder head.

5. Remove the distributor O-ring and discard.

INSTALLATION:

TDC Timing Marks:





1. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to align the groove on the pulley to the "0" on the timing belt cover.

2. Remove the oil filler cap to ensure that the camshaft cavity is visible. It may be necessary to rotate the crankshaft 1 full revolution.

Distributor O-ring Installation:





3. Install a new O-ring on the distributor housing. Lightly coat the O-ring with engine oil prior to distributor installation.

Distributor Installation:





4. Align the drilled mark on the distributor drive gear with the groove on the distributor housing.

5. Install the distributor. Align the center of the flange with the bolt hole on the cylinder head.

6. Install and lightly tighten the distributor hold down bolts.

7. Reconnect the distributor primary connectors.

8. Reconnect the secondary wires to the spark plugs and ignition coil.

9. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
