Curb Idle Speed
Fig. 40 Connecting Tachometer:
1. When setting the idle speed make sure that:
a. Air cleaner is installed.
b. All vacuum hoses are connected.
c. Make sure that all fuel injection wiring connectors are fully plugged in.
d. Engine should be at normal operating temperature.
e. All accessories should be turned OFF and the transmission in neutral.
2. Connect a tachometer to terminal IG of the check connector located on the left strut tower. Fig. 40
NOTE: Never allow the tachometer terminal to contact a ground as this could cause damage to the ignition system. Some tachometers are not compatable with this ignition system. Please confirm the compatibility of your tachometer before connecting it.

3. Maintain engine speed at 2,500 rpm for about 2 minutes.
4. Release throttle and connect a service wire between terminals TE1 and E1 of the check connector. Fig. 40
5. Check engine idle speed.
Idle Speed: (w/ Cooling Fan OFF)
2WD Models 700 rpm
4WD Models 800 rpm

6. If idle speed is not as specified, set the idle speed by turning the idle speed adjustment screw. Fig. 42
7. Remove tachometer and service wire from engine.
