1. Start engine and warm-up to normal operating temperature.
2. Check that idle speed is 800 rpm.
3. Remove cap, filter and separator from dash pot.
4. Maintain engine speed at 3,500 rpm with the throttle valve. Use your finger to plug the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) hole inside DP housing. Fig. 151a
5. Release the throttle valve and check DP setting speed.

DP Setting Speed:
(M/T) 1,800 rpm
(A/T) 2,200 rpm

NOTE: All setting speeds are with the cooling fan OFF.

6. If not as specified, adjust the DP adjusting screw. Fig. 49
7. Repeat steps 4 and 5. Release your finger from the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) hole.
8. The engine should return to normal idle speed in about one second.
9. If a problem is found, replace the dash pot.
10. Reinstall the separator, the filter and the cap.
