HINT: Screw sizes in the above illustration are indicated by following the code below for removal and installation of safety pad.

REMOVAL OF SAFETY PAD

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL

2. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL

3. REMOVE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT PILLAR GARNISH





4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
Remove five screws and the steering column covers.





5. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH LOWER PANEL
(a) Using a screwdriver, pry loose four clips and remove the cluster finish lower panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(b) Disconnect the connectors.





6. REMOVE NO.1 UNDER COVER
Remove three screws and pull out the No.1 under cover.





7. REMOVE ENGINE HOOD RELEASE LEVER
(a) Remove two screws and the engine hood release lever.
(b) Disconnect the release cable from the lever.





8. REMOVE FINISH LOWER NO.1 PANEL
(a) Using a screwdriver, pry loose the speaker panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(b) Remove two screws, four bolts and pull out the finish lower No.1 panel.
(c) Disconnect the connector.





9. REMOVE NO.2 HEATER REGISTER DUCT
Remove the screw and pull out the duct.





10. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
(a) Remove the remote control mirror switch and disconnect the connector.
(b) Remove five screws and the cluster finish panel.
(c) Disconnect the connectors.





11. REMOVE COMBINATION METER
(a) Remove four screws and the combination meter.
(b) Disconnect the connectors.





12. REMOVE NO.2 UNDER COVER
Using a screwdriver, pry loose three clips and remove the No.2 under cover.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





13. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT
(a) Remove the screw and check arm.
(b) Remove four screws and pull Out the glove compartment.
(c) Disconnect the connector.

14. REMOVE FINISH LOWER NO.2 PANEL WITH GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR





(a) Using a screwdriver, pry loose the speaker panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





(b) Remove two screws and the door lock striker.
(c) Remove two screws, five bolts and the finish lower No.2 panel with glove compartment door.
(d) Disconnect the connector.





15. REMOVE NO.3 HEATER REGISTER DUCT
Remove the screw and pull out the duct.





16. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL
Using a screwdriver, pry loose four clips and remove the console upper panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





17. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH CENTER PANEL WITH RADIO
(a) Remove four bolts and pull out the cluster finish center panel with radio.
(b) Disconnect the connectors and antenna cable.





18. REMOVE RADIO FROM CLUSTER FINISH CENTER PANEL
Remove six screws and the radio from the cluster finish center panel.





19. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX
(a) Using a screwdriver, pry up the console box hole cover.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

(b) Remove eight screws and the rear console box.





20. REMOVE FINISH LOWER CENTER PANEL
(a) Remove two screws and the finish lower center panel.
(b) Disconnect the connector.





21. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL
(a) Remove two screws.
(b) Remove the heater control from safety pad and hang it.





22. REMOVE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

23. REMOVE SAFETY PAD





(a) Push on the pawls of speedometer cable and pull it from safety pad.





(b) Remove the bolt from the No.3 retainer.





(c) Remove the screw from the No.2 bracket.





(d) Remove the screw, two nuts, three bolts and the safety pad.





HINT: The defroster nozzle has a boss on the reverse side for clamping onto the clip on the body side. Therefore, when removing, pull upward at an angle.





24. REMOVE NO.2 BRACKET
Remove the screw and the bracket.

25. REMOVE GLOVE DOOR LOCK MOUNTING BRACKET
Remove two screws and the bracket.

26. REMOVE NO.3 RETAINER
Remove two screws and the retainer.





27. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE
Remove seven screws and the defroster nozzle.





28. REMOVE NO.5 HEATER REGISTER DUCT
Remove two screws and the duct.





29. REMOVE NO.1 HEATER REGISTER DUCT
Remove three screws and the duct.





30. REMOVE NO.4 HEATER REGISTER DUCT
Remove three screws and the duct.

31. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL NO.2 REGISTER

32. REMOVE NOZZLE GARNISHES





INSTALLATION OF SAFETY PAD

Install Safety Pad Parts Following Removal Sequence In Reverse

HINT: When reinstall the speedometer cable, first pull on the cable guide casing.
