Part 2
29. INSTALL ALTERNATOR30. CHECK THAT ROTOR ROTATES SMOOTHLY
Mount the alternator on the alternator bracket with the pivot bolt, nut and adjusting lock bolt. Do not tighten the bolts yet.
31. INSTALL DRIVE BELT
Adjust the drive belt tension.
Drive belt tension:
New belt 175 ± 5lb
Used belt 115 ± 20lb
32. CONNECT CONNECTOR AND WIRE TO ALTERNATOR
33. CONNECT NO.3 PCV HOSE
34. CONNECT HEATER INLET HOSE
35. CONNECT RADIATOR INLET HOSE
36. CONNECT FOLLOWING HOSES:
(a) Charcoal canister hose
(b) Cruise control vacuum hose
(c) Brake booster hose
37. CONNECT GROUND STRAP TO ENGINE RH REAR SIDE
38. INSTALL VACUUM TRANSMITTING PIPE AND AIR INTAKE CONNECTOR BRACKETS
39. INSTALL AIR INTAKE CONNECTOR
40. INSTALL ACCELERATOR LINK BRACKET
41. INSTALL PCV PIPE WITH HOSES
42. INSTALL NO.1 AIR CLEANER HOSE WITH INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
43. CONNECT EXHAUST PIPE TO EXHAUST MANIFOLD
44. FILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT (With Heater).
8.3 liters (8.8 US qts, 7.3 Imp. qts)
45. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF BATTERY
46. START ENGINE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS
47. PERFORM ENGINE ADJUSTMENT
Adjust the ignition timing.
48. CONNECT TACHOMETER TO ENGINE
Connect the test probe of a tachometer to terminal IG (-) of the check connector.
- Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
- As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.
49. ADJUST IGNITION TIMING
(a) Using a service wire, connect terminals TEl and El of the check connector.
(b) Check the idle speed. Idle speed: 700 rpm
(c) Using a timing light, slowly turn the distributor until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the 10° mark. Tighten the distributor bolt and recheck the ignition timing.
Ignition timing: 10° BTDC at idle (w/ Transmission in "N"range)
Torque: 140 kg-cm (10 ft-lb, 14 N.m)
(d) Disconnect the service wire.
50. FURTHER CHECK IGNITION TIMING
Check the ignition timing advance.
Ignition timing: 9 - 11° BTDC at idle
51. DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT
Ignition timing: 10° BTDC at idle (w/Terminals TE1 and E1 connected)
52. PERFORM ROAD TEST
Check for abnormal noise, shock, slippage, correct shift points and smooth operation.
52. RECHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL AND OIL LEVEL
