Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Remove water proof cover from distributor.

Ignition Wire Removal:





2. Disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs and ignition coil.

3. Disconnect primary distributor wires from distributor.

Oil Filler Cap Removal:





4. Remove oil filler cap from valve cover. Looking through the oil filler hole, turn the crankshaft clockwise until the cam nose comes into view.

5. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise approximately 120°.

TDC Timing Marks:





6. Turn the crankshaft clockwise 10 to 40° so the timing marks align to TDC.

Distributor Hold Down Bolt:





7. Remove the distributor hold down bolt.

8. Remove the distributor from cylinder head.

Distributor O-ring:





9. Remove O-ring from distributor.

INSTALLATION:

Distributor O-ring:





1. Install a new O-ring on distributor. Lightly coat the O-ring with engine oil prior to installing distributor.

Distributor Drive Gear Alignment:





2. Align the groove of the distributor housing with the protrusion on the drive gear.

Distributor Installation:





3. Install the distributor into cylinder head.

4. Lightly tighten distributor hold down bolt.

5. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
