Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Drain engine coolant from radiator.
2. On A/T models, disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage.
3. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
4. Disconnect air cleaner hose.
5. Disconnect TPS connector.
6. Disconnect hoses:
a. PCV hose
b. No.2 water by-pass hose from ISC Valve
c. Emission control vacuum hoses
7. Remove accelerator bracket.
8. Remove four bolts, throttle body and gasket.

Removing Throttle Body:





9. Disconnect the No.3 water by-pass hose.
10. Remove the vacuum transmitting valve (VTV) and the No.2 water by-pass hose.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install the VTV and the No.2 water by-pass hose. Reconnect the No.3 water by-pass hose.
2. Install a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake plenum.
3. Install the throttle body using the four mounting bolts. Torque the bolts evenly to 9 ft.lbs. (13 N-m).
4. Connect hoses:
a. PCV hose
b. No.2 water by-pass hose
c. Emission control vacuum hoses
5. Connect TPS connector.
6. Connect air cleaner hose.
7. Connect accelerator cable and adjust. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for proper procedure.
8. On A/T models, connect throttle cable.
9. Fill radiator with coolant.
10. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
