1. Disconnect solenoid valve electrical connector.
2. Apply voltage between terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 12, solenoid operation should be heard.
3. Using suitable ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals 1 and 2, resistance should be 7.4-8.0 ohms on 1989 models or 6.0-11.0 ohms on 1999-92 models, connect solenoid valve electrical connector.
4. Using suitable jack stands, raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove glove box. Do not disconnect ECU electrical connector.
6. Start engine.
7. Using suitable voltmeter, inspect for voltage between ECU terminals SOL - and GND with engine at idle, 0-.05 volts should be indicated, Fig. 13.
8. Place transmission in gear while traveling at 37 mph, measure voltage between ECU terminals SOL - and GND, .016-.22 volts on 1989 models or .12-.23 volts above amount measured in step 7 on 1990-92 models should be indicated.
9. If voltage is not as indicated, replace ECU.
