Wastegate Solenoid: Description and Operation

Wastegate Actuator:

PURPOSE
The wastegate actuator is a positive pressure activated diaphragm pot designed to open and close the wastegate valve.

LOCATION
Located on the turbocharger.

OPERATION
The actuator receives its pressure signal from the impeller outlet side of the turbo. The actuator is designed to open the the wastegate valve (via a rod connected to the diaphragm), when boost pressure approaches 7.4 psi. As pressure drops, a spring in the actuator pot returns the diaphragm/rod assembly to normal, returning full exhaust flow to the turbocharger. The wastegate actuator is not adjustable and contains no serviceable parts.
