Camshaft Position Sensor

REMOVAL:

Camshaft Position Sensor, Exploded View:





1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

Oil Filler Cap Removal:





3. Remove oil filler cap. Look through hole and turn crankshaft clockwise until the cam nose can be seen.

TDC Timing Marks:





4. Turn crankshaft counterclockwise approximately 120 °. Turn the crankshaft again approximately 10° - 40° clockwise so that the timing belt cover TDC mark and the crankshaft pulley TDC mark are aligned.

#1 And #2 Air Cleaner Hose Removal And Installation:





5. Remove the #4 air cleaner pipe with the #1 and #2 air cleaner hoses.

6. Disconnect the three air hoses connected to the #7 air cleaner hose.

7. Disconnect the air flow meter connector.

8. Disconnect the power steering idle up air hose.

9. Loosen the clamps and remove the bolt.

Air Flow Meter Removal And Installation:





10. Remove the #7 air cleaner hose, the air flow meter, and the air cleaner cap as an assembly.

Power Steering Reservoir Removal:





11. Remove the power steering retaining bolts. Remove the power steering reservoir tank with bracket.

12. Remove the camshaft position sensor hold down bolt. Remove the camshaft position sensor from cylinder head.

13. Remove and discard O-ring from camshaft position sensor.

INSTALLATION:

1. Coat a new camshaft position O-ring with engine oil prior to installation.

Drive Gear Mating Marks:





2. Align the drilled mark on the drive gear with the groove on the housing.

3. Ensure engine is still on TDC and install the camshaft position sensor in cylinder head. Lightly tighten camshaft position sensor hold down bolt.

4. Install the power steering reservoir tank and bracket.

Air Flow Meter Removal And Installation:





5. Install the #7 air cleaner hose with air flow meter and air cleaner cap. Install the bolt and tighten clamps.

6. Connect the power steering idle up air hose, the air flow meter connector, the PCV hose, and the other 3 air hoses.

#1 And #2 Air Cleaner Hose Removal And Installation:





7. Install the #4 air cleaner pipe with the #1 and #2 air cleaner hoses.

8. Reconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

9. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

10. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
