EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

1. Disconnect electrical connector and vacuum hoses from the vacuum switching valve. Remove the VSV from the engine.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the terminals and the housing body. Fig. 86
3. If there is any continuity, replace the VSV.
4. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminals, Fig. 87. The resistance should be 37 - 44 Ohms at 68°F ambient temperature.
5. If not as specified, replace the VSV.

6. Check VSV operation by blowing air into either pipe, Fig. 85. If air flows through other pipe, replace the VSV.
7. Apply battery voltage across terminals. Fig. 84
8. Check that air flows through both pipes.
9. If not as specified, replace the VSV.
10. Reinstall the VSV. Reconnect electrical connector and vacuum hoses.
