Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the vacuum sensing hose.
2. Put a suitable container under the FPR to catch any fuel that escapes.
3. Disconnect the fuel return hose from the No.1 fuel return pipe.

Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR):

4. Remove the two FPR mounting bolts and pull out the FPR (with the No.1 fuel return pipe) from the fuel rail.

Removing FPR From Fuel Rail:

5. Remove the union bolt and No.1 fuel pipe from the FPR.

Removing Fuel Return Pipe From FPR:

6. Remove the O-ring from the FPR.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install a new O-ring on the FPR. Coat the O-ring with a light coat of gasoline to ease insertion into the fuel rail.

Installing New O-Ring On FPR:

2. Install the No.1 fuel return pipe with new gaskets on the FPR. Torque the union bolt to 14 ft.lbs. (20 N-m).

Connecting Fuel Return Pipe To FPR:

3. Insert the FPR into the fuel rail, giving attention to the proper positioning of the FPR to prevent fuel leaks.

Proper Positioning Of FPR In Fuel Rail:

4. Install the two FPR mounting bolts and torque bolts to 5.8 ft.lbs. (7.8 N-m).
5. Connect the fuel return hose to the No.1 fuel pipe.
6. Reconnect the vacuum sensing hose to the FPR.
7. Ensure that any gasoline that escaped is thoroughly cleaned from the engine.
8. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
