Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

1. Drain engine coolant from radiator.
2. On A/T models, disconnect throttle cable from throttle linkage.
3. Disconnect accelerator cable from throttle linkage.
4. Disconnect air intake connector.
5. Disconnect TPS connector.
6. Disconnect emission and A/C vacuum hoses from throttle body.
7. Remove two bolts, two nuts, throttle body and gasket.

Removing Throttle Body:





8. Disconnect the water and PS Idle-up hoses. Remove the throttl body from the engine.

Removing Water And PS Idle-Up Hoses:





9. If necessary, remove Dashpot and the Auxiliary Air Valve from bottom of throttle body.

INSTALLATION:

1. If the Auxiliary Air Valve was removed, place a new gasket and O-ring on the throttle body and reinstall the Air Valve using the four mounting screws.

2. Install the Dashpot, if it was removed.

Installing Dashpot And Spring:





3. Connect the water and PS Idle-up hose to the bottom of the throttle body.
4. Install the throttle body using the four mounting bolts/nuts. Torque evenly to 9 ft.lbs. (13 N-m).
5. Connect emission and A/C vacuum hoses.
6. Connect TPS connector.
7. Connect air intake connector.
8. Connect accelerator cable and adjust. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for proper procedure.
9. On A/T models, connect throttle cable.
10. Fill radiator with coolant.
11. Start engine and check for vacuum leaks.
