Removal and Installation
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.2. Remove tie rod end cotter pin and nut, then using tool No. 09628-62011 or 09611-22012 or equivalent, disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle.
3. On 1989 models, remove charcoal canister and bracket.
4. On all models, remove column hole cover attaching bolts, then remove cover.
5. Place installation alignment mark on universal joint and shaft.
6. On 1989-90 models, remove u-joint bolts, then slide to column side, and disconnect from gear housing, then remove joint.
7. On 1991-92 models, loosen upper and lower universal joint set bolt, then pull joint upward from control valve shaft.
8. On all models, using tool No. 09631-22020 or equivalent, disconnect pressure and return tubes.
9. Remove exhaust pipe clamp from front bracket, then remove exhaust pipe.
10. Remove rear engine bracket.
11. Remove gear housing attaching nuts and bolts, then slide gear to RH side, then to LH side to remove.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
