Fuel Tank: Description and Operation
Fuel Tank And Components:
The fuel tank, located in the rear of the vehicle, holds the gasoline for vehicle use. The tank is of pressed steel construction and is mounted to the underside of the vehicle by metal straps. It has a rust resistent coating on the interior surface to prevent rust deterioration caused by the alcohol content in the fuel.
A fuel tank breather tube and valve vent the fuel vapors to the charcoal canister as part of the Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP). For more information on this system, refer to EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS. The fuel tank also houses the fuel gauge sending unit.
