Engine Torque and Sequences





CYLINDER HEAD TORQUE & SEQUENCE
a) Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, uniformly tighten the 10 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 79 Nm (806 kgf-cm, 58 ft. lbs.)




b) Mark the front side of the cylinder head bolt with paint.
c) Retighten the cylinder head bolts by 90° in the sequence shown in the illustration. Check that the painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.







HEAD BOLT REUSE / REPLACE
Using a vernier caliper, measure the length of the head bolts from the seat to the end.
Specified bolt length: 161.3 to 164.2 mm (6.350 to 6.465 inch)
If the length is greater than the maximum, replace the bolt.





INTAKE MANIFOLD TORQUE & SEQUENCE
Install a new gasket and the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)





CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP TORQUE & SEQUENCE
Examine the front marks and numbers of the 5 bearing caps and install them. Then install the 10 bearing cap bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 30 Nm (301 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) for bearing cap No. 1
9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) for bearing cap No. 3



INSTALL NO.2 CAMSHAFT
Examine the front marks and numbers of the 5 bearing caps and install them. Then install the 10 bearing cap bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 30 Nm (301 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) for bearing cap No. 2
9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) for bearing cap No. 3





MAIN BEARING CAP TORQUE & SEQUENCE
Uniformly install and tighten the 10 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)


CRANKSHAFT PULLEY TORQUE 170 Nm (1,733 kgf-cm, 125 ft. lbs.)


FLYWHEEL / FLEX PLATE TORQUE & SEQUENCE

INSTALL DRIVE PLATE & RING GEAR SUB-ASSY (A/T)
a) Using SST, fix the crankshaft.
b) Clean the bolt and the bolt hole.
c) Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end.
Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND or equivalent.




d) Install the front spacer, drive plate and rear spacer with the 8 bolts. Uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 98 Nm (1,000 kgf-cm, 72 ft. lbs.)

INSTALL FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSY
a) Using SST, fix the crankshaft.
b) Clean the bolt and the bolt hole.
c) Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end.
Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND or equivalent.




d) Install the flywheel with the 8 bolts. Uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 130 Nm (1,330 kgf-cm, 96 ft. lbs.)






EXHAUST MANIFOLD TORQUE & SEQUENCE
a) Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 37 Nm (378 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)




b) Install the No. 1 and No. 2 exhaust manifold stays with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.)






WATER PUMP TORQUE & SEQUENCE
Install the water pump and bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
